My oldest son turns 9 in a few days and is actually the only one that tries to come out and shoot with me. He’s been fondling everything slingshot related I have and probably broadcast five acres worth of garbanzos all over the back yard.

Well today I had to go to Walmart and get some diapers and coffee so I grabbed him the Barnett Black Widow he’s been going nuts over. I told him that he’d be better off picking whatever design he wanted and we’d build it but I guess he couldn’t get over that clever packaging lol.

He lit up like a Christmas tree! We immediately went outside with a fresh pack of 1/2” daisy glass and went to work. I have never pulled so heavy of band. It was miserable but he wasn’t giving up lol. About ten shots in he remarked “this pouch feels like it’s made of wood” and “I think that this needs bands like yours”.

A quick trip to the bench and here’s what he’s got. A Barnett Black Widow with 2040 SimpleShot tubes and a soft pouch from a set of busted Trumark RRTs.

    He’s ready for action now!

Those tubes are ridiculous and good for him to notice that. He's a natural, Dad!!

I think that Barnett may have the narrowest forks of all the big box store slings. I like that.
      And it's shiny, too!
And that new shooter is piling up valuable lessons early!

Great to see. Black widow is a cool frame, but yes the tubes are ridiculously strong and the pouch is to big and heavy. Great for big ammo or stones, but not for children lol. Personally I would look at getting him a better frame, spud dude! Kids love them. 20190615_142044.jpg

But keep the black widow and turn it into a sling bow, hours of fun. FB_IMG_1566937854328.jpg

      I’d shoot a Spud Dude!
I saved those heavy tubes with intent of a future sling bow project. Maybe soon he’ll move on to another and give up the frame too
