When Monroe contacted me a couple of weeks about a skim board OPFS and to help with my PFS quest I was thrilled. But today I got this....

A beautiful apple wood conus banded and ready to go with extras. I literally met the mailman on the way out the door to go to work grabbed the box and brought it to work with me. But sadly the inaugural "can time" will have to wait til I get back Friday.

Monroe its truly beautiful and thank you.

Very cool Mike, Monroe is a giver from the heart, and I’ve gotten several nice slings from him.....and now owe him a couple, lol

Mike, you are quite welcome and it was a joy to build it for you. The wood is actually Dogwood that was home grown by my wife. I don't think she had any idea when she planted that Dogwood tree some 20 years ago that it would one day become beautiful slingshots. When the tree had no green growth on it this spring, I quickly volunteered to cut it down. More to come!!!

I know all too well about things running together. Thought is was old age!

I think there is a lot of different opinions on using wax. You will need to buy a can of either Johnson's paste wax, or some sort of beeswax. Every so often when it looks like it might be drying, give it a rub down with more wax and wipe off the excess. The Conus that I got from Arturo was done in beeswax too. Really liked the feel of the wood and thought to give something similar a try. Saw a woodworker on YouTube doing BLO for 3 coats about an hour apart, then a buffed in Johnson's paste wax. I just happened to have both in my shop and liked the results. You could probably get similar results with Tung Oil and Wax, but suggest to test it first. But for natural forks, I think I'm hooked on the BLO and Wax. Mainly for the nice feel of the wood.

Yeah I noticed with just the Danish Oil when its hot outside while practicing the sling gets almost gummy. Ill pick up some paste wax see if it makes a difference and might as well pick up some BLO while I'm at it.
