Hey Y'all. Last month I posted some photos of a homemade natty I called "Grover" but I mistakenly thought I had made it from a deadwood Monterey Pine natural fork. It was actually made from a Eucalyptus tree branch... so oops! However, I did manage to find an actual deadwood Monterey Pine fork recently and I worked it down into an OTT slingshot. Here is a video I made called "Adventures in Slingshot Building: Monterey Pine" with a series of video clips I took in between the steps I used to shape it. I think the resulting wood has some nice character with the typical knots you get in pine, blue staining from pine beetle infestation, crotch figure, and quilting along one side which I was pleasantly surprised to see. I like the smell of pine so it was good to work on in that sense as well. The woodcraft was done over Halloween weekend so I called this one "Samhain". Happy Trails!
