In December 2019 I got a huge forked section of ziricote tree trunk. Since then I have been waiting for it to be completely dry.

Today I finally started working on it.
I completely roughened the sapwood to see how much heartwood volume I'll count for fun.

I think there will be at least a couple of slingshots from the main fork and at least one Conus from one of the branches.

Ziricote is a hard wood, almost as hard as lignum vitae, so I know it will take me some time to cut and carve.
It will be a process of several weeks. So I will update little by little.

FLB, are you able to saw off and save the waste pieces for palm swells, end caps / fork tips etc., would be a shame if you couldn’t

In fact I keep the cuts for splices and knobs. When I can get cross cuts, I do some plinker.
Definitely, from one of the upper branches I will make a Conus.

Men! Just looking at the color and grain in the cuts, I feel like it was worth the full hour I spent with the handsaw.
