Got this beauty in the mail yesterday! Big thank you to @StringSlap for sending it to me along with a couple bags of 3/8” clay ammo. The frame is a beautiful oak natural that fits extremely well in the hand, perfect balance of knots and grain, and just the right amount of curve to be a good intuitive shooter. I could hardly wait to give it a go but had to hold off until my day job was done for the day.

I’ve shot clay ammo before, but what I had was the brand that is variable in size and didn’t have the hard coat finish. The ammo that Steve sent is all perfectly sized and appears to have a glaze coat of some kind. So I was anxious to give it a go and see how this clay ammo compared to my other shooting experience.

Banded up the frame with some red Precise, my favorite SuperSure Roo pouch, and headed to the backyard shooting range. A couple shots on a piece of cardboard to get the feel, then attacked a drink can to see how much penetration the clay ammo had. It did take a few extra shots, but the ammo flew straight, true, and made quick work of the drink can. So this is my first ever clay ammo can cut. So if anyone is on the fence about the hitting power of clay, it will rip up a can very nicely!

So again a big thank you to StringSlap for sending this beautiful and awesome natural to me and greatly appreciate the new clay ammo.

Great shooting, Monroe! Really glad you like that little natty. It's one of the first ones I made and didn't know if it was up to snuff. BTW that clay ammo is a bit heavier than most. It is the magnetic type and has a BB size iron dust core. I think that extra weight helps them fly a bit better.

What size is that red Precise?

Sling-N-Shot got me started on them. It is a treat to shoot naturals and a feel for basic frames. They can teach us a lot in this high tech world.

The bands are .70 mm cut to 14" active length, with a 15-20 mm taper. This is my normal setup for shooting 3/8" ammo with a 3/4 butterfly draw.

Never would have thought the clay had an iron core. Just checked with a magnet! Pretty cool. They do shoot well. Thanks again.

Thanks and I agree. One of life's simple pleasures.

Someday, I would like to add a UK Yew fork to my collection. ;)

If it's okay to ask ... Where do you get this clay ammo?

The last time I found glazed clay ammo that was consistently sized was 3 years ago and that source is no longer around [emoji53]

      Thanks in advance!

Ebay. Don't recall the exact vendor, but if you just search for "clay slingshot ammo" you'll find lots to choose from. Several located in the US (if that's where you're from) so no need to wait for delivery from China. I also purchased 1/2" clay (my preferred) from Amazon. As a side note, Simple Shot now sells clay ammo that is a bit bigger than 3/8 and looks really good. I will most likely order from them the next time I need to re-stock.

Like StringSlap said. I just restocked off Amazon 1800 for $17 but not the magnetic ones.

Dang, Monroe! You're building quite the Natty collection. :);)

That's a very good looking and shooting oak natty.
