For one reason or another, those cube shaped bands are considered by most, the best in South-Africa when in reality, they are just terrible. The locals refer to it as Haas Rek - Rabbit elastic. They pull with difficulty and are incredibly rigid.

I never see them being used anywhere else in the world.
It just seems like such a shame for good frames to be wasted with poor rigs.

wow,,, those are some high forks,,, they probably give the wrist a workout but they look bad enough to send a big rock down to a bunny. I think the ties are to reduce abrasion when chucking big rocks. wouldn't be my favorite frame but replace your ammo with 1/2" hexnuts or something much bigger and use your wrist-flip to send the ammo and you might be surprised what those rubbers can do. they maybe won't plink good, but you can probably do some damage.

Do you have trouble getting other types of latex or rubber down there,if you live in or close to a big city you should be able to find a business store to obtain some good fresh rubber bands either 32,64,and if your lucky alliance 105 or 107's,just a thought trying to help you out and get to shooting like you want:)

You get tubes but they are scarce. The alternative is inner tube from a bike. Some of my friends have tried yoga bands but generally, folks in SA think the square bands are the best... It's almost like how everybody originally thinks the black widow catapults are the ultimate.

The old Milbros were sold with solid squares. Seems like most people I see using them now-a-day do it out of nostalgia. ?
I have to mail order the good stuff too...

I have seen several test and the square bands lasted the longest but also preformed the worst over a chronograph. They seem to be heavy and slow , but they last a long time.
Can you not order the Chinese brands of latex to use on your sling shot. Make yourself an good multi plex Baltic birch plywood frame , flat bands and you will really appreciate how much easier the sling shot is to shoot and how well it shoots.

I agree. The pic was sent by a friend to me. It's a typical band setup for slings over there.

This is the third time that I have heard about the difficulty of gwttimg good elastics in Africa.

I think we as a community ahould bs able to help these guys & gals out. I'd be willing to make a donation of the good tubes and flats to someone there that can share 'em.

Are there any clubs or groups that we can contact for this?

      Any African slingers on here?
