Went out for a wander this afternoon with my Romany custom catapults milbro complete with square neo laccy and big pouch 10mm lead was the chosen ammo, few shots in seemed like i'd been shooting non stop i shoot these type of frames instinctive slight cant of forks got to be my favourite frame to shoot , the square elastic is slow but is very predictable and lasts ages....and as they say proof is in the pudding Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
Nice shootin..Yeah I had a Lucky 7 shooter with square elastic's..real power hitter some stout pull on the square elastic's..if I remember it was 12# pull weight back for me...Great lookin shooter.....akaOldmiser
Thanks guys , yeah it's a pretty frame my better half gave it to me on our first Christmas together bless her ,it was alot shinier then but i kinda like the tarnished look. The neo squares have got to be on a milbro style frame wouldn't look right with flats the ones on this frame are the 5.5 mm so not to bad a pull the 7mm are for the stronger/younger lads . Got a Bells of Hythe lucky 7 to with buffalo scales banded up with 6mm linatex square elastic that as you say takes quite a pull much more than the neo squares but with 12/14 mm lead hits very hard Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
Now that's what I'm talking about! Was wondering when someone would use a tried and true slingshot instead of the sissy ribbon bands and tiny 25 cal steel bbs. Thanks for posting, this made my day.
My pleasure Nico ...when it comes down to it the small stuff will do it but the tried and tested set up rules everytime Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
This post makes me want to set up mine, i wish i had squares to put on the milbro. Definitely not a target set up hahahaha.
Agreed on both points. I have tried all sizes of projectiles in my 36 years of using the humble slingshot. Have killed animals with 1/4 steel and tapered tubes in the 90s just wasnt reliable to my standards so I stick with the tried and true and commend you for keeping the old tradition alive.
I use .375 lead or .62 marbles, both weigh approximately 80 grains. Tex shooters bands , field, pull 14#'s and his express bands pull 16#'s and neither has trouble killing small game--- if the shooter is doing their job. The Saunders black mamba bands pull 12-13 #'s depending on the length and last a long time. Double 1/8" ,ID, tubes work well but are not as fast as the dual flat bands but still faster than the square bands I have tried. Lots of choices out there but as the OP said , proof is in the pudding . A good hit is a good hit. BTW have been shooting sling shot since I was 10 so 63 years of experience and still enjoy shooting them !!
You know it! I just gave her a refinish and polish, she looks nice! I will try to recondition the squares to bring it back to the original state!
Thanks Big Ron ...Got to admit i do love the square bands takes me back to my early teens and the only catty rubber you could get was the square stuff which we got from the local bike shop the barnet black widow tubes which we're expensive or make your own out of an old inner tube ! So much less head scratching with band tapers/thicknesses and we had the same results and just as much fun . Few years back i hated flats yeah i've warmed to them now ,they now last longer and are cheaper to buy than they were ,the only problem is there's not much in the way of squares available now well good stuff anyway have tried lots of different samples of ebay and it's crap, the good stuff is the neoprene but it's expensive per meter compared to flats and tubes which is a real shame Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
i wouldn't trust those brother they must be 5 years old i bought that 3 or 4 years ago and the guy i bought it from hadn't shot in a long time and those where on there when he sent it to me from the UK,would love to see pics of her all shined up
