This is the Dayhiker Chalice I made from one of the boards I scored from the thrift store. Looked like oak. Then when I started working it, it really looked like walnut. But then when I applied the finish it looked like oak again! Whatever it really is, I think it came out pretty good. I'm not 100% happy with the finish. There are a few rough spots and it doesn't have the glass like look and feel I was hoping for. I used Krylon rattle can clear gloss polyurethane. Have to wait a couple of days before I can add another coat or two. My son likes it so I will band it up light for airsoft BB's, so I don't have to worry about a fork hit busting it. Thanks for looking!

Looks great Steve....if you’ll scuff between each coat of poly with a green Scotchbrite pad, and wipe or blow the dust off, that’ll knock down any small air bubbles or airborne dust / lint etc, that may have stuck to the previous coat, which will give a very smooth finish.....scuff the last coat, wipe again, then wax....good to go.

Thanks, Darrell. The directions just said to apply the next coat within 10 minutes of the first, so that's what I did. After it dried and I could feel the little irregularities I did hit it lightly with a green pad and that made it feel a lot better. Says I should wait 72 hours before more coats so I'm trying to be patient!

Well, I'm good with walnut, but whatever it is it looks awesome. Really nice work on that. And I'm sure it will be a joy to shoot!
