Thread will be updated as the build progresses
A couple weeks ago I was doing some trimming around my chestnut trees and ran into a copperhead. I proceeded to dispatch said snake in a timely, nervous, and efficient manner. Having been bit by a copperhead at a young age and spending 3 days in the hospital, I know these things are no joke. After I killed it, I immediately knew that I wanted to inlay the skin and head in resin and use it for a slingshot. Treeman was gracious enough to allow me the use of his Pit Viper design (a pit viper for the Pit Viper) for this build and I couldn't be more excited to get started with it! The first part was to skin the snake and do a DIY taxidermy of it with 20 Mule Team Borax powder. Give it 8-10 days to work it's curing magic, and it was time to trim it up and pour resin! The build will be multi parts of desert tan G10, day glow G10, (paying homage to this being a young snake. Baby copperheads have a bright green/yellow tail) and some of the most insanely figured stabilized white oak I've ever seen. I cannot wait to see how this all comes together!
For those of you who are resin masters, this was my first ever pour. I had to modify my silicone molds to make a long enough piece to work with. I'm learning this as I go, and the first lesson I learned was not to use a blowtorch in close proximity to parchment paper [emoji23][emoji23]
I'll have to pour a little more to get the head completely covered, but I couldn't be more excited!!
