Winter time always feels like it just won’t get over soon enough. Big thank you to Jake (DSIL) for initiating and getting a winter activity to help us pass the blues of cold weather. After all the names were in the hat, Darrell and I were the lucky pair and a coincidence that we had just finished a trade between ourselves about a week before. So this just meant that we had to each try to top what we had just done. For me, that was a real struggle as it pushed me out of my comfort zone a little as I tried to come up with something new. On the other end, Darrell is rock solid with his amazing Naturals and never short of new innovative ideas on what to do with a stick.

I am still enjoying all the natural frames that I had just received on the last trade and now, I’ve got to put them down for a spell and pick up these beauties. My biggest problem isn’t shooting, but what to shoot! Darrell, you don’t make it easy and if I get in trouble for spending too much time with my Slingshot toys, it is all your fault! :smug:

Just take a look at all this that Darrell sent! Not only did he make me 3 fabulous frames, he knew exactly what building materials to add. Aluminum plates, bamboo wood samples, and copper nails that all will get used sooner than later. Also added an ammo magnet that says it can pick up 35 lbs of ammo! And a coveted multi tool from B&D Industries.

Awesome Darrell and extremely greatly appreciated!

    Finger relief grips are prefect!

No turquoise was spared on this sweet frame. The butt end is amazing. Rough cut and looks like Bulldog Darrel gnawed it off with his teeth! Gonna be my goto light ammo shooter.
    IMG_1383.JPG
This white wood is amazing. Looks and feels like Ivory. Absolutely amazing and a prefect grip.

The maker's mark and lanyard holes are always unique!

This is a very rare natural from "Layered Birch Tree". Often mistaken as plywood, but the growth rings are always symmetrical and adds great strength to the tree when it grows. I am really blessed to get one of these rare builds from Darrell. With the scalloped fork tips, I'm going to give tubes a try on this frame.

Anxious to see what these look like when I cut into them. Palm swells on my next build!
    IMG_1393.JPG
Says it is guaranteed to lift 35 lbs of ammo! This is a sweet little magnet that will make a great ammo holder.
    IMG_1394.JPG
Also got two of the amazing multi driver tools. Perfect for detailed work and will get plenty of use in my other hobbies.

Thanks again Darrell, amazing trade and looking forward to doing this again. :tu::tu::tu::)

Thank you my brother! All banded and ready to go. Just need the cold wind to stop for a moment. Should be live action tomorrow afternoon!

Thanks again and thank everyone for the nice comments. Now give Darrell a little break and wait a week before starting up anymore trades with him!

Free time and good weather finally let me out side and had a great time with the new frames. First time shooting BSB 0.45 mm latex and will say that it might be my new favorite band material. On the larger natural from Darrell, it really packed a punch. Took me a few shots to get on the 60 mm circle from 10 Meters. So a little more practice on accuracy, but on the can cut, it only took 6 shots and it the bottom ripped off.

      IMG-1416.JPG

The smaller Natural was banded with the same BSB band cut to 12mm straight. Perfect balance for the 1/4" ammo but shot so fast that I had a hard time seeing the shot. Looks like a shotgun pattern, and I need a lot more practice with small ammo. Started getting close to the handle, but need more work on my part.

The ply frame did well too. But I must say that tubes are not my favorite. Here it is with Simple Shot 2040 tubes and did ok with 3/8 ammo, but I just can not get the same consistent shot as I do with bands. More to learn and might just need to try some different size tubes to get it right. None the less, it was good enough to cut a can!

Great frames Darrell and I have some new challenges to get the combo right on these but they are all awesome frames. Enjoyed every shot and hard to put them down to shoot the next one.

Its easy, Sammy. Thin or medium CA ( super glue) and your choice of material. Darrell likes his turquoise I like fine colored craft sand or chalk. Fill what you need to fill I always leave the area raised a little so I can sand it flush and smooth. Then take the CA and SLOWLY saturate the material so the CA soaks in. Let it fully dry and sand away.

Perfectly executed and explained technique....one thing I can add though, is if you use CA Accelerant to aid with quicker, almost instant drying/ curing....use it sparingly.
Too much and the glue can dry with air pockets or voids formed, which you’ll have to fill with more inlay and glue after initial sanding.....just a light misting is more than sufficient.

Be careful with accelerant and chalk. Chalk acts as a natural accelerant, so both together can go POOF! Because of the trapped air. Learned the hard way CA / chalk everywhere[emoji43]
