Our dear friend Richard "Blue" Skeen passed this morning with his family by his side in Michigan. Blue loved slingshots. Blue loved slingshot folk. Blue was a gentle, generous, and fun loving man...and we will dearly miss him.
For those who didn't know Blue or know of Blue, he was the reigning national slingshot champion through the seventies and eighties...no one could beat him. He shot faster, straighter and with more joy than any of his competitors and he never met a soul who was not quickly a friend.

Whether he was dancing, making slingshots, or teaching a kid how to shoot, he did it with joy and a smile on his face. He was my dear friend and mentor and I will miss him immensely. His time has come to pass on and I will hold my years spent as his friend close to my heart for the rest of my life. He was an adopted grandpa to my kids, a friend and father figure to me, and a pillar of our great community.

Shoot 'em straight with the Angels Blue! We will never forget you and your legacy.

The first time I met any of the sling folk in person was at a gathering at Blue's place. That will always be a special memory for me. He will be missed.

Love and thanks to Blue, as well as all of you for showing up with slingshots. Came to me when I needed it most, and will always be there. Gonna pass it on in the same way. Love and respect Nathan. My condolences for your loss.
Great words above, targets still in front of every marksman's heart inside.

what a tough last leg for such an admirable guy.. I know he'll be missed but surely not missing, and perhaps he made a wise choice in shipping his slingshots ahead of time...

Blue was (IS!) a wonderful man, and a fantastic shooter. I'll always recall the long talks we had together at the ECST meets, and the honor I had of assisting this absolute legend around the wooded course on several occaisions (though shooting seated, he often topped the field on this "cross country" style range!). Blue freely shared his hard earned, detailed knowledge of the game, and I'll forever cherish the 5 naturals that he built for me (his commonsense construction instantly made you a fan of these beautiful basic tools!!). Rest up ,ole pal, we still have an eternity of shooting to do !

Somehow I ran past Blue's passing! Blue was a fine man and I was proud to call him my friend. He was a giant in bringing back the slingshot sport to what it is today and will be missed greatly! -- God Bless
