A friend of mine has some property with a variety of trees on it. He let me come out and scavenge a bunch of forks a while ago. I asked him if I could do anything in exchange for the forks and he suggested that I make something from some of the applewood that I picked up. He thought it would be cool to have something that came from a tree that was planted by one of the original settlers to the area. I took one of the bigger gnarly looking pieces and decided to use the KPX pattern posted by Peter Recuas. I love so many of Peter's designs and this one turned out fantastic. BTW, the wood was dried, rough cut and then stabilized with cactus juice before the final shaping, sanding and a couple coats of BLO. Enjoy the photos...

Peter, Your designs and work were my inspiration for this one. I've been looking at your gallery almost every day for a week trying to figure out some of the details that I wanted to include. I've already started making one for myself because I like the feel of this one so much. Thanks for posting the Kpx pattern and all the photos of your work that you share. It's great to have so many people here with such talent and knowledge that are willing to help others.

He called it a wall hanger. I guess that's a compliment. :) He actually liked it a lot but he hasn't shot much so I think the narrow gap made him a little worried about shooting it.

Thanks, I was surprised by the white spalting but it adds a lot of interest to the otherwise rich browns.

I like this a lot. That old apple tree gave so much to this world. I was staring at that last photo so much I think I must have looked like Stephen Hawking.

Thanks! I almost left this old oddly shaped branch just laying in the field because I didn't think that I could do anything with it. I had loaded up all the other pieces that I had collected and just before leaving I walked back and grabbed this piece which I'm now sure is the jewel.

Thanks! I don't know the type of apple tree that this came from. I'll ask my friend if he knows and if not, then maybe we can figure it out this fall.
