Down here we crackers call that a cane pole. Cane pole fishing.
Always wanted to tie my own flys As for that style of fishing though I've yet to attempt it
It's a bit of an art
Tempura? Nah, the fancy folks get captain highliners, maybe that's tilapia, I dunno what we're talking about anyway..
i been wanting to do it for a long time , looks so cool.
Also love the self made tenkara fishing nets!
Yeah its just a skinny cane pole but thats whats cool about it. No reel and is telescopic down to 15" so I can pack it anywhere. I always play the fish and like light tackle so it fits the bill.
Lefty Kreh said it was a fad. I guess he was wrong.
It probably is but for me there's nothing like having a nice trout online with a 2lb test leader. Thats why I like fly fishing. I get more feel of the whole process from strike to landing them. I release most all unless I plan dinner. :)
Yeah I have a Tenkara out fit..plus I have been tying flies a couple years now....I have some posts in off topic section..before the fishing section came too be
I have a small 5' 2 piece ultra-light rod and reel with 6#.
It flicks a fly with a little casting bobber. It's easy to pack and set-up and it's easy to control in tight quarters.
I grow 20 different types of bamboo. I could make a rod for pennies if I wanted a swisher like the originals.
That's what we called them. Swishers.
Oh yeah I do have some posts in the fishing fourm..pg 5 is about my TenKara out fit...Oct 2015 I think
Old timers would use them to fish in the fire water. The phosphorescence makes the water glow so they had to fish straight up and down from a bridge to avoid the fire on the line. Snook won't bite if the line is glowing.
They'd swish a plug with a tie on top around in a figure 8 until a snook popped it.
Made from heavy bamboo cane and 100# mono.
Its like slingshots......they all will work but some are a bit more efficient and balance better.
Best way to describe it is the Japanese tuna fishermen.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzE0hfa6II
Lol......thats not fishing. Thats a frenzy. I actually had that happen on a boat with barracuda when I was 11 years old. If you used bait you were wasting time because a silver hook worked just as good. I caught 23 with in minutes and thru-up on them on the way back home in the back of the truck. Lol
I'm a Zebco man, myself!
pawpaw had video on tenkara fishing and also made few line holders. looks to be fun easy way to fly fish.
