Hammer grip?

    So I helped my older neighbor rediscover his love of slings last year. Little history he's 72 yrs old has Lupus and arthritis with small to medium sized hands so finding a frame style that works has been a challenge. He favorite so far is a BIG AF @Pablo54 frame I got in a trade, but due to the size and weight shooting time is limited. I've made and gave quite a few to him which he shoots at my house or on his morning walks. His one mandate and he's adamant is it has to be a upright hammer grip.[emoji35] Both of which I don't do!

    Well recently he found out a local indoor archery range will be holding Slingshot shoots/tournaments and he wants to participate. So I picked up a Hammer LT with Ocularis plugs for him during Simple Shot's sale. Which he doesn't know about yet[emoji12] I chose the plugs because he has difficulty doing wrap and tuck. Usually I do this for him, but I wanted him to be able to change bands when I'm not around.

    As I don't shoot Hammer grip nor do I own many production frames and some of my fellow members here are "older". ABSOLUTELY No disrespect intended!!! Also many of y'all shoot hammer. Any thoughts, suggestions and/or validation? I don't shoot hammer grip so I'm also fishing for any suggestions for other frames.

      Wrote a whole encouraging reply without reading it all properly . If he'll use the hammer, then he should be fine, but yeah, it wouldn't be my first choice.. I would have suggested a slightly larger natural with enough room to thumb brace so it's not scary for novices. It sounds like you care a lot and I hope you both make it to that tourney.. let us know how the journey goes.

      Yeah I've had him try different styles including my PP Taurus which he liked but said it put to much pressure through webbing of his hand causing pain and he's unable to grip enough to release the pressure. We'll see when the hammer arrives.

      Sadly with my work probably won't be able to do a tourney, might try a shoot or two

      Man build a rambone or tawohawk or a moorhammer all pretty easy builds and pretty fun . Rambone being the easy one full out template on line . I made one for guy next store long time ago . I should try again I probably do way better more tools more knowledge

      Go to the templates of the other forum and dig out the Lead Launcher on page 5 of the templates or the Bad Hammer on page six. On page six is, "Bad Swells". Easy to build, shoot easy and size up or down well. Here are some I made doing the LL handle on the BC fork with side swells. trio.JPG
      Bad Hammer may be a good option also.

      maybe the BoneGrip, very comfortable to hold and low profile for low torque

      If he has arthritis and lupus, then the best thing you can for him, is to get him shooting finger and thumb braced, side on. Hammer grip is really hard and tiring on the wrist!!

      The Hammer has arrived! Man this frame is cool. Heavier than I thought. Hope he likes it.
