So when I go hiking I always take my slingshot but wanted to do some fishing aswell as theres a few ponds / creeks in my area.

I had used a light flyfishing set up but spent more time getting it untangled from trees and myself then fishing.
I had used a light spinner set up to some success but a lot of snags and felt like I was scaring a lot of fish.
I had been trying to get to grips with a hobo reel / handline for about 6 months with zero success.

Then I heard about tenkara - japanese style fly fishing.. got myself a cheap rod on aliexpress for like 5 bucks got some line material from a hardware store a roll of tippet and flies and its been really awesome. I realise I probably just wasn't skilledenough using the other methods but this certainly seems to work really well for me.

The setup is cheap as dirt, light and backpackable and no hassle.

anyone else into this style of fishing? I like that its added another dimension to my time outdoors especially if I blank when hunting with my slingshot.

you can check out some recent footage I got using my setup to catch a trout toward the end of this video here:

So in tight spots would something like a roll cast be used? OMG, I once loved fly fishing-this could be a return to childhood!
