Some you guys may have seen my previous Turkey project, the SHUCKAPOW! The colours and shape reminded me of a 50's bowling alley.

I used the same wood combo for this Mantis, hence the Turkey Mantis name. I tweaked the design a little, shortened the palm swell area and made the band attachment a Topslot instead is a wrap and tuck. That SHOULD take care of the hand slap.

Purpleheart, Maple, Paduak, Walnut all spaced with Maple veneer.

I want to thank @ZorroSlinger for this great design that I hope to make more of.

I had TB Blue on it, no hand slaps and was a sniper.

I then put on some TB Gold on request and still no hand slaps, but shot high so I had to adjust my aim. I also tried to induce handslap by using 1/4 SB instead of 3/8 and clean shooting.

I really like it! @ZorroSlinger we are on to something!

@Metropolicity I like what you have done with this. And the collaboration to see this get off the ground has been commendable. Personally, I was negative towards the design when I first saw it - not as a shooter but as a fast draw shooter. I think the design and execution are excellent and have no doubts to its effectiveness as a shooter. And I would not be upset if someone proved me wrong and demonstrated this as a fast draw model. :)

Yah, I stopped trying to make it a fast draw. IN THEORY it's one, but really she's just a fantastic static target shooter.

I am very interested in the fact that you aren't getting any handslap. Are you shooting gangsta, upright, active?

Upright, target style (as in hold for a second and release).

I haven't shot it sideways yet but I haven't had a good track record of PFS sideways.

I've had similar experiences with the other more traditional PFS designs with a topslot, hand slaps greatly reduced.

Collaboration is excellent summation of this! Although, this was accidental and not planned! In my view others were involved and get credit : @Canh8r posted recent topic about Fast Draw and he mentioned briefly about self centering grip, then as conversation went on, @GrayWolf commented about a possible custom PFS with a front catch/hook, and both those things triggered idea and I did that preliminary quick concept drawing. Then Eric with his expertise made it a reality and it has evolved, maybe not necessarily for fast draw, but perhaps Sniper-esque PFS target shooter... however ... I think, with some practice & how you holster it, Mantiss has possibilties for Fast/Quick Draw also (using tubes)!

@Metropolicity Here is a question for you regarding construction. Did you somehow scan the prototype so that the computer program could calculate the size and shape of the various layers?

Nope, just my powers of judgement. I knew that the waist area is no more than 3/4" so the middle spine area is the full frame. The 'wings' area is the full width, and I wanted each fork to be 1" so 4 layers of material.

The palm swell/butt end, never exceeds 1.25 so again, it was a matter of putting only one layer above the spine frame layers.

It saves me a little time and I can more efficiently use a sheet of material. The plywood one I had no idea where I needed to cut out so I just made a big block and cut it off with a band saw and shaped it afterwards.

    make sense?
