Be safe, I thought the last few years were droughts.

I saw that. How bad is it?

We have been in drought but we've had tons of rain this year and the snowpack in the Sierra is way above normal. The lake filled up last week and they started letting out water. While they were doing that, the spillway started eroding but they couldn't stop letting out water. Now the main spillway is ruined and water is coming over the emergency spillway.

They say they don't think the dam will burst but they downplayed the spillway issue too, so who knows. They are evacuating Oroville and a few other towns downstream.

I've been watching it on the news...

I saw that on the news and how a big hole has washed out of the spillway ," but there was no danger". Yea sure !! People in Colorado got washed away when an earth dam gave way. The earth dam is OK for a pond but +/- for a lake. I saw too many levees on the4 Mississippi river give way when I lived in Illinois !

Oroville is an earth dam and it's the second biggest lake in the state. From what I see on the news it looks like things will be alright tonight but tomorrow the inflow could pick up.

yikes...

Luckily, Chico is upstream from the flow if the dam should break.

The dam held overnight. They will be using helicopters today to carry rocks to reinforce the emergency spillway.

I read that they were evacuating people into your town.. will they have to stay there or be allowed home anytime? it's bad enough to be displaced, now they risk picking up the "crazy"...

I saw a farm house completely engulfed in water, I Immediately wondered if all the squirrels would be stuck in trees and if rabbits could swim... you could head down with a slingshot and a fishing pole, make some light of a bad situation...

All they'll say about the evacuees returning home is that they will be allowed to when is's safe? What ever that means.

I was in Sacramento the other day driving to modesto was interesting to say the least...
