I might be tapping birch as well. But that will probably wait till next year. After I have a season under my belt. But making birch beer would be fun, plus only picking up 2 dozen taps this first time. Next year I will probably have a few more. @Cap'n Joe yes. @oldmiser oh yeh. It's one of the reasons I want to start making it. Mostly as gifts and personal use.

That's cool! Do you have a place to boil it down? My Uncle made it for years and had a little shack with a wood stove and a huge pan on top, it was a 24hr process the whole time the sap was flowing.

But there are a few large Amish communities up here. They own a few businesses, I was recommend to check em out. And was happy with what they built.

Thanks, well if I do it correctly then it will automatic prime itself. The pump is actually only going to reach down to 50 feet, the static water is 20ft. And it's supposed to be about 20 feet below that. My only concern is dropping the damn pipe, never to be seen again. Once the pump is in, I have to pump out 1000 gallons before I can get the water tested. So it's still up in the air on what is in it

It will take a few days to a week for it to really clear up and settle down. How deep? Is it pounded or drilled? Cased? Drilled will clear sooner than pounded, the more standing water you have in the case the longer it will take to settle.
